Wellness Is Redefining Hospitality

Wellness Is Redefining Hospitality

27.03.2025

A sauna is more than just a heat room- it’s a sanctuary of well-being. In the world of luxury hospitality, wellness is no longer an afterthought- it’s an essential part of the guest experience. More and more hotels, resorts, and spas recognise the transformative power of sauna rituals, incorporating them into their wellness offerings to provide an atmosphere of comfort, tranquillity, and deep restoration.

At Auroom, we take pride in designing saunas that seamlessly blend into their surroundings, becoming a natural extension of a hotel’s design, philosophy, and guest experience. Whether nestled in mountains, overlooking the sea, or in the heart of a bustling city, our saunas enhance the environment rather than overpower it- creating spaces where guests can pause, breathe, and truly relax.

A sense of place – saunas that belong

For a sauna to feel authentic and inviting, it must reflect the character and atmosphere of its environment. Each of our hospitality projects tells a unique story- of architecture, nature, and the art of relaxation.

In Japan, the Ryokan Shizuku Hotel is redefining traditional hospitality by placing wellness at the heart of the guest experience. Located on the shores of Lake Yamanaka with breathtaking views of Mount Fuji, this boutique ryokan (traditional Japanese inn) offers something rare: a private sauna in every suite.

During its transformation, the hotel’s manager travelled to Finland and Estonia to study authentic sauna traditions, ensuring a Nordic heat therapy experience rooted in centuries of wellness wisdom. Thanks to our trusted partner, Totonoü, each of the 14 guest suites now features an Auroom Cala Glass sauna.

Beyond the sauna, guests can cool down in Mount Fuji’s natural spring water and unwind in dedicated relaxation areas, following the true heat-cold-rest cycle of an authentic sauna ritual.

This project is a testament to Auroom’s ability to craft saunas that enhance their surroundings, allowing guests to experience wellness in its purest, most immersive form.

The Rise of Wellness in Hotels

The global hospitality landscape is experiencing a profound shift. According to industry experts, wellness is no longer a niche market but a core expectation for modern travelers. Studies indicate that global wellness tourism is growing twice as fast as the overall tourism sector, with a predicted market value of over $1.35 trillion by 2028. This marked an increase of more than 100 percent on the market size from 2022, which stood at just over $637 billion. High-end hotels and resorts are re-imagining their spaces to prioritise holistic well-being, from spa treatments and meditation areas to saunas designed for both relaxation and recovery.

As part of this movement, saunas have become an essential element of luxury hospitality, offering guests a place to disconnect, recharge, and embrace a slower pace of living. More than just an added amenity, saunas contribute to physical restoration, mental clarity, and immersive wellness experiences- an expectation that continues to rise among discerning travelers.

At a high-end hotel in Monaco, Auroom designed a bespoke indoor sauna that perfectly complements the refined aesthetic of its surroundings. Built with premium materials and custom finishes, this sauna is a statement of exclusivity and indulgence, offering guests a private retreat for deep relaxation.
